Virtual Town Hall Event

HIGHLIGHTS

SUMMARY

This event took place via Zoom videoconferencing, bringing together Olympians from both the 1980 and the postponed 2020 (now 2021) Olympic games. Interns were there for talent handling of athletes and speakers, troubleshooting of technical issues, and support for the participants and hosts.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE

As this event was in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, the forum event took place entirely online. I had never been a part of an online forum or webinar before so it was the first time I was contributing to an event in this way. I was put in positions that I had never worked in before; for example, roles like quality assurance and technology testing. I also worked one-on-one with a 1980 Olympian which is by far one of the coolest things I will probably ever do! I feel that I often thrive in 'behind-the-scenes' positions and I got to put that to the test during this event.

See below a document I made for participants, outlining the basic instructions for entering a call on the Zoom video application. This document is based on several instructional sites and videos, making it easier for participants who are unfamiliar with the application to navigate more easily.
